A home run after college programme for children

By Geoffery Moffet

Hence your son's college does not offer any extracurricular activities. You are worried of depriving your youngster of all that extra information and fun. What must you do?

After school activities need not be taught in a school-like environment by professional teachers in a structured and timely fashion. There is a lot YOU can do to support your youngster's academic, physical and social development. Don't be too concerned about formal programs, as many of our youngsters are already over-scheduled.

Clearly, college is top priority for parents and youngsters. Getting in to the right school is vital and that is the reason why some elders need to attend school appeals to guarantee theiur child gets into the right college. They have to go to school, and finish their homework. They should then do their daily reading or writing work etc. This will take 30-60 minutes. During the process of his daily work, your kid may develop certain academic preferences and interests. If so you can try and find a programme in a college or a community center that may help him and encourage him. In the age of the Net, info is not a rarity. Allow him to use the net to find additional info about thing that he likes. Encouraging the child to do independent research to gain detailed information is something that no formal programme does.

If you're concerned about the absence of social life, enroll him or her in a club - a reading club maybe. Visit public libraries or perhaps the theatre, if your child is interested. It isn't necessary for your youngster to make friends with kids his very own age. A parent-child book club is another fascinating option. If you can round up a number of similar minded kids and their parents, you may very well kick off your own after-school programme.

When there isn't any arranged group activity, look to your community. Many kids love to get involved in social issues. They get their first real taste of suffering, charity and community help from such experiences. Volunteering for clean-up sessions, adult education programs etc may be a real eye-opener for your child. The lessons thus learnt are invaluable.

If exercise or the lack of it's your major concern, sign up your child for some dancing classes. If organised sports are impossible to get, try to enroll her in a gym. She could find pals there and may take to the treadmill.

Your kid does not always have to be a part of an organised group to benefit from after-school activities. There are several avenues open in front of you. Roping in the enthusiasm of your children in daily household activities like cooking, cleaning etc can also provide them with a nice extra experience. Additionally, it will improve family links too.
